It’s 9:01 pm – Happy Birthday. You are conked out in bed so I can’t wish you an official “Happy Birthday.” You went down tonight without a peep. It has been a busy two days with not one, but two parties.
This past year has been a big one for you. You started off leaving the infant stage, not being able to walk yet, to the beginnings of “toddlerhood” where your wobbly legs took you a few steps, and then to full “toddlerhood” where you walk, run, and jump about. The past few weeks I see that you are leaving this stage and starting to inch your way into the world of becoming a pre-schooler. Granted, you still have a while to get there, but you have begun the journey. Some of the signs are very obvious, such as you defiantly telling me “NO!” as I try to help you with something I have done on a daily basis, like putting your shoes on or getting you into your car seat. Other times are sweet, such as when you feed your baby doll with such care and tenderness.
And then there are those moments that I catch just a glimpse, out of the corner of my eye…when you are on our bed intently watching a video and you are lying on your stomach with your legs bent behind you. There is nothing “special” about you doing that – it’s not like you are doing a trick or something that requires a skill. When you are older and reading this blog you will probably roll your eyes and say “Oh Mom,” but when you have kids of your own one day you will know exactly what I am talking about. It is those special little things you do that make me realize you are growing up and how precious you are.
Allison, I can’t even begin to tell you how much you mean to your Dad and me. You are such a joy in our lives. Your hugs and kisses, your funny facial expressions, and the way you take care of Amelia all mean so much to us.
Thank you for letting us be part of this journey. We have enjoyed the ride and can’t wait for the adventure to continue.
Love,
Mom and Dad
